- No warm-up time before taking a measurement
- Uses either powder or cost-saving liquid reagents
Advanced portable photometer for the measurement of free and total chlorine in the water. This meter offers a superior optical system that utilizes a reference detector and narrowband interference filters for extremely fast and repeatable measurements
Chlorine is a widely used chemical by many because of its properties for disinfection, oxidation, and bleaching. Chlorine is utilized in swimming pools, drinking water, and food processing to disinfect and prevent bacterial growth. In metal finishing, it functions as an oxidizer to transform cyanide in wastewater into cyanate, whereas in the pulp and paper sector, it is employed to bleach wood pulp to achieve white paper. The HI97711 is intended to detect low concentrations of free and total chlorine in water up to 5.00 mg/L (ppm). The HI97711 features a cutting-edge optical system that provides exceptional performance in precision, consistency, and the quickness of measurements. This small, waterproof meter is very easy to use with a tutorial mode that guides the user visually, step by step, through the measurement process. Employing a backlit dot matrix LED enables virtual keys, rendering the meter's operation highly intuitive HI97711 is completely waterproof including the cuvette holder that is designed with ridges to protect the optical path from getting scratched by the cuvette and a gasketed battery compartment that holds three common AA batteries. The compact design fits comfortably in the hand for use in the field or on a table for benchtop use. The LCD is 71 mm (2.75") by 37 mm (1.6") and is backlit for easy viewing under all conditions.
- LED that generates very little heat
- 8 nm narrowband interference filter that is accurate to +/- 1 nm and offers a 25% increase in light efficiency.
- Reference detector that modulates the voltage to LED for consistent light output.
- A concave focusing lens that reduces errors from imperfections in the cuvette
QUICK TIP:
Measurement procedure - free chlorine:
Note: Free and Total Chlorine have to be measured separately with fresh unreacted samples, following the related procedures, if both values are desired
Required reagents:
Code - HI93701-0 | Description: Free Chlorine Reagent | Quantity: 1 packet
1. Select the Free Chlorine (Powder) method using the procedure described in the METHOD SELECTION section
2. Fill the cuvette with 10 mL of unreacted sample (up to the mark). Replace the plastic stopper and the cap.
3. Insert the cuvette into the holder and ensure that the notch on the cap is positioned securely in the groove.
4. Press Zero. The display will show “-0.0-” when the meter is zeroed and ready for measurement.
5. Remove the cuvette.
6. Add the content of one packet of HI93701-0 Free Chlorine Reagent. Replace the plastic stopper and the cap. Shake gently for 20 seconds.
7. Insert the cuvette into the holder and ensure that the notch on the cap is positioned securely in the groove
8. Press Read. The display will show a 1-minute countdown prior to the measurement. To skip the timer, press Read twice. When the timer ends, the meter will perform the reading. The instrument displays the results in mg/L of chlorine (Cl2)
