Detect water leaks with the Tramex Dec Scanner Roof Moisture Meter

Fast, non-destructive roof condition assessment

Quickly survey moisture levels in roofing and waterproofing systems using the Dec Scanner, which non-destructively measures electrical impedance per ASTM D7954. Perfect for warranty audits, quality control, ongoing maintenance, or before re-roofing or roof repairs.

How the Dec Scanner works

The Dec Scanner identifies and quantifies leaks in roofing systems. With three sensitivity ranges and penetration up to 6" (152mm), it can assess various roof membranes and insulation thicknesses. Immediate readings allow coverage of flat roof areas up to 100,000 sq. ft. in a single day.

Safe and easy to operate with no regulatory restrictions, the scanner uses a low-frequency electronic signal transmitted via a rubber mat electrode. The returned signal indicates moisture levels, which are converted into comparative moisture values. Simply scan across the roof to locate wet areas.

Operating procedure

Moisture detection can be done during installation, as part of routine maintenance, or before re-roofing. The lightweight and durable Dec Scanner is easy to transport. After identifying a dry reference area, select one of three sensitivity ranges and move the scanner across the roof. Continuous readings allow a detailed moisture map to be created and leaks traced to their source.

Range selection

The Dec Scanner’s adjustable calibration ensures precise readings. Choose the appropriate range for your roof type:

  • Range 1 – Best for single-ply and thin roof coverings such as PVC and Hypalon, where moisture is near the surface.
  • Range 2 – Suited for multi-ply built-up and modified systems, mineral-surfaced felts, or gravel surfaces with deeper moisture.
  • Range 3 – Designed for thick roof coverings like mastic asphalt or stone-surfaced roofs.
