An advanced research-grade dual channel benchtop pH/ISE/mV meter, the HI5222 laboratory meter has a large color LCD, capacitive touch keys, and a USB port for computer connectivity. It is fully customizable.
With features like 5-point calibration, adjustable resolution, data logging, alarm thresholds, extensive GLP, and more, the HI5222 laboratory pH/mV/ISE meter has a lot to offer. With dedicated keys for routine operations and virtual buttons that help users navigate setup options, it maintains usability.
The HI5222 is an advanced research grade benchtop pH/mV/ISE dual channel meter that is completely customizable with a large color LCD, capacitive touch keys, and USB port for computer connectivity. The HI5222 features two galvanically isolated BNC connections for use with the expansive line of pH, ISE, and ORP electrodes that Hanna Instruments offers. The meter is supplied with the HI1131B glass body, double junction, combination pH electrode that operates over a wide range of temperature from 0 to 100ºC.
The included separate HI7662-T temperature probe automatically adjusts all readings for temperature changes. Eight pre-programmed buffers or five custom buffers can be used to calibrate the HI5222 as a pH meter up to five points. Hanna's unique CAL CheckTM is incorporated into the HI5222 to notify the user of possible issues during the pH calibration procedure, such as "Electrode Dirty/Broken" and "Buffer Contaminated.". After calibration is finished, the overall probe condition based on the electrode's offset and slope characteristic is shown as a percentage.
The HI5222 is an ISE meter that can be calibrated up to five points in any concentration unit using either five user-defined standards or seven fixed standards. By choosing the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) display option, the calibration data—which includes the date, time, standards used, and slope—as well as the current measurement can be seen whenever you want. There are three logging modes to choose from: AutoHold, manual, and automatic. 100,000 data points or more.
Q&A:
How does a dual-channel design improve accuracy and workflow in advanced laboratory measurements?
A dual-channel meter allows simultaneous measurement of two parameters (e.g., pH and mV, or two ISEs), reducing sample handling errors and improving throughput. It also enables direct comparison or validation between electrodes, which is especially valuable in research and method development.
What level of measurement resolution and accuracy is required for research-grade pH and ISE analysis?
Research-grade meters typically offer pH resolution down to 0.001 pH units and mV resolution of 0.1 mV or better. High accuracy, combined with low drift and stable temperature compensation, is essential for reproducible results in analytical and regulatory environments.
How does automatic temperature compensation (ATC) affect pH and ISE measurements in high-precision applications?
ATC corrects for temperature-dependent changes in electrode response, ensuring consistent readings across varying lab conditions. In research-grade instruments, ATC works alongside manual temperature entry and calibration at multiple temperature points for maximum precision.
Q4. Can the meter support multi-point calibration and advanced electrode diagnostics?
Yes, advanced dual-channel meters typically support multi-point pH and ISE calibration with real-time slope, offset, and electrode health indicators. These diagnostics help identify aging or contaminated electrodes before they compromise data quality.
Q5. What data management and compliance features are important for research laboratories?
Research-grade meters often include internal data logging, timestamped results, GLP/GMP compliance support, and USB or LAN connectivity. These features ensure traceability, simplify audits, and allow seamless integration with laboratory information systems (LIMS).
QUICK TIP:
How to USE Hanna HI5222 - basic instructions
1. Press and then to select pH Measure mode (select channel first for HI5222).
2. Select the Direct reading mode (see pH Setup for details).
3. Place the electrode tip and the temperature probe approximately 4 cm (1.5”) into the sample to be tested. Allow time for the electrode to stabilize. “Stable” will appear.
4. The measured pH value will be displayed on the LCD, together with short GLP information and display preferences. Note: If the reading is out of range, “----” will be displayed on the LCD.
5. Save image: Press [Trigger] again, or: Press [OK]. or Discard image: Press [ESC].
