Q&A - Guardian 5000 Hotplate Stirrers

What safety features are included in the Guardian 5000 Series?

The Guardian 5000 Series features SafetyHeat™ protection that shuts off the heater in the event of malfunction, and SmartHousing™ remains cool to the touch and is chemical resistant. Two independent safety controls monitor electronics and prevent overtemperature conditions.

What top plate material should I choose for my lab?

Ceramic plates are chemical resistant, visible for sample color, and withstand higher temperatures up to 500 °C. Aluminum plates provide uniform temperature distribution, durability, and resistance to cracking or chipping. Selection depends on your application and sample type.

How precise is the stirring and temperature control?

The device offers stirring from 60 to 1600 rpm with software-controlled ramp rates and heating up to 550 °C (depending on plate type) with three temperature control modes for fast or precise heating.

What are the built-in applications or uses for the Guardian 5000?

Applications include boiling water, preparing water/oil baths, dissolving buffers and reagents, media preparation, and concentrating samples. Optional probes extend monitoring and calibration capabilities.

Is the Guardian 5000 easy to operate and read?

The bright backlit LCD provides temperature, speed, probe, and calibration information at a glance. Intuitive icons simplify operation, while audible alarms and indicator lights keep the user informed of heating or stirring status.

Are there standard accessories or included items?

Power cord, optional temperature probes, PTFE-coated stir bars (for stirring models), and a built-in support rod holder are included. Calibration for multiple setpoints is supported on heating models.

Can the Guardian 5000 be used safely in educational settings?

Yes, with its chemical-resistant SmartHousing and SafetyHeat early detection system, the Guardian 5000 provides safe and reliable operation for students and instructors in labs.

What type of Guardian top plate material best suits the lab, ceramic or aluminum?

Ceramic and aluminum top plates are both suitable for lab use and each material has its benefits. Most importantly, Ceramic top plates are chemical resistant and safer if working with corrosive chemicals that may splash onto the plate surface. They can withstand higher temperatures up to 500 °C and can be wiped clean. The white surface of a ceramic top plate is preferable for quantitative chemical analysis or other work where clear visibility of the sample color is required. The edges of a ceramic top plate may not be as hot as the center. This may not be suitable if uniform heating over the entire plate surface is needed for the application. Aluminum top plates offer more uniform temperature over the entire heating surface and will not crack or chip, and will withstand accidental handling. To avoid thermal shock, glassware should be used on ceramic top plates, and heating of metallic vessels should be avoided. Above all, Ceramic top plate units are also not suitable for sandbaths or any vessel that may reflect heat back onto the surface which may cause thermal shock.

What kinds of users typically benefit from this product line?

These products are commonly considered by organizations involved in sample preparation, routine lab heating, incubation, dissolving, and mixing tasks where users need to compare block count, vessel size, controller type, and stirring capability across related models.
