Hanna Waterproof pH Meter for conductivity, and dissolved oxygen (pH/ec/do) — Dissolved oxygen checks in water and process samples
This meter is most useful for aquaculture, environmental, and wastewater teams who need a portable instrument for field or lab verification of oxygen levels for treatment efficiency, aquatic health, or process control.
Between the three probes and a built-in barometric pressure transducer, the HI98199 can measure up to 10 water quality parameters with 5 being measured by sensors and the other 5 by calculation (i.e. EC to TDS).
The main features of the HI98199 multiparameter portable are:
• Auto-recognition for connected probe
• Messages and warnings clearly displayed on the backlit LCD
• Available log space for up to 45000 samples
This professional, waterproof meter complies with IP67 standards and is supplied with all necessary accessories to measure pH/temperature packaged into a durable carrying case.
Multiparameter portable pH/EC/do waterproof meter
Superior Durability
An IP67-rated, waterproof meter means that this meter is built to withstand immersion in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. The meter has rubber gaskets sealing the battery compartment and connectors in epoxy to prevent any water from entering and damaging the internal electronics from water. With an ergonomic design and waterproofing, the HI98199 will fit well in your hand and provides years of use.
Dot Matrix Display
The large dot matrix display provides for an intuitive user interface in which the user is guided through any setup configuration or calibration. A dedicated help key provides for contextual help that is related to the screen being viewed at the time. The dot matrix display is viewable under bright sunlight and has a backlight for when viewing under poor lighting conditions.
Alphanumeric Keypad
The low-profile vulcanized rubber keypad along with virtual keys provide for a quick entry of a password, user ID, and sample site. The configuration of the meter can be password protected to prevent any unwanted changes. The user and sample ID are stored with any logged readings and can be transferred to a PC for analysis or long-term record keeping.
Digital Probes
HI98199 uses highly advance digital electrodes featuring a built-in microprocessor that performs the measurements. When these probes are connected to the meter they are automatically detected and the meter is updated to display the appropriate parameter. These digital electrodes also feature a quick connect DIN connector that provides a secure waterproof connection.
Flexibility
HI98199 is supplied with a pH/temperature probe. The meter can always be upgraded to measure dissolved oxygen or conductivity by purchasing the compatible probe.Traceability
The calibration information for a connected probe can be viewed at any time using the dedicated Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) button on the meter. The calibration information includes the date, time, calibration points, and probe characteristics.Quick Connect Digital Probe Connection with Auto-Sensor Recognition
The Quick Connect DIN connector is designed for a quick and secure waterproof connection. The meter will automatically recognize the probe attached and upload stored calibration data. Each probe then transmits readings digitally to the meter overcoming challenges faced with standard analog probes.USB-C Port for Data Transfer
The USB-C port is used for transferring logged data to a PC using Windows-compatible software. The HI98199 can log up to 45,000 samples either by interval logging at a set time period or by log-on demand of individual reading.
Built-in Pressure Transducer
The HI98199 has a built-in pressure transducer for the measurement of barometric pressure. The pressure measurement can be viewed with any probe connected but the measurement is used when measuring dissolved oxygen for automatic atmospheric pressure compensation. How ot use

Why measure pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen together?
pH indicates how acidic or alkaline water is, EC shows the ability of the water to conduct electricity (which relates to the amount of dissolved salts/ions), and DO reflects the amount of oxygen available in the water. Together, these parameters provide a comprehensive picture of water chemistry critical for environmental monitoring, water treatment, aquaculture, and industrial processes.
What pH range and accuracy does it provide?
The meter typically measures pH from 0.00 to 14.00 pH with a resolution of 0.01 and an accuracy around ±0.02 pH, with automatic temperature compensation for consistent results.
How does conductivity measurement work and what range does it cover?
Conductivity (EC) is measured by applying a small electrical signal between electrodes in the probe; the meter converts this into conductivity values in units such as mS/cm. Typical models measure from 0 up to about 200 mS/cm with auto‑ranging resolution for both low and high values.
What are typical dissolved oxygen measurement capabilities?
Dissolved oxygen can be reported in both percent saturation and mg/L (ppm). Many meters measure DO up to around 500 % saturation or about 50 ppm, with temperature and barometric pressure compensation to ensure accuracy.
Why is waterproofing important for this type of meter?
Waterproof protection (commonly rated IP67 for the meter and IP68 for the probe) allows the instrument to be used in wet field conditions, boat decks, rivers, lakes, and laboratories without damage from splashes, rain, or accidental brief immersion.
What industries and applications benefit from this meter?
This multiparameter meter is widely used in environmental water testing, wastewater and drinking water monitoring, aquaculture, scientific research, industrial discharges, and educational settings where reliable and portable water quality data is essential.
How is the meter calibrated and maintained?
Calibration typically uses standard solutions: buffer solutions for pH, certified conductivity standards for EC, and known oxygen saturation standards for DO. Routine calibration and proper probe cleaning ensure reliable and accurate measurements over time.
Application Q&A
What makes this kind of instrument practical for daily use?
Portable operation, straightforward calibration routines, and application-specific sensors or scales help teams get faster and more repeatable results where the work is actually happening.
Who benefits most from this product?
Aquaculture, environmental, and wastewater teams benefit most when they need quick, defensible readings for process adjustments, troubleshooting, or documented quality checks.
Because it combines Auto-recognition for the connected probe, Messages and warnings clearly displayed on the backlit LCD, Available log space for up to 45000 samples, this product is a strong fit for dissolved oxygen checks in water and process samples in real operating conditions.
